What to Do in the Adirondacks This Weekend: World Cup Mountain Biking, Dance, and the Rail Trail
What's happening in the Adirondacks the weekend of October 2–4, 2026? The UCI Mountain Bike World Series finale in Lake Placid and Wilmington, a Parsons Dance studio showing, the Adirondack Rail Trail fall gathering in Tupper Lake, and the Saranac Lake farmers' market.
October has arrived, and the color on the hillsides is really starting to show. This weekend's calendar covers a wide range: international racing, contemporary dance, a gathering of trail supporters, and a Saturday morning market. Together they cover a good stretch of the Tri-Lakes area.
Below is what we confirmed from each organizer's own website as of Wednesday, September 30, 2026. A few details differ from what you may have seen shared elsewhere, so we've noted them. Schedules can change, so check the organizer's page before heading out.
WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series (October 2–4)
Where: Cross-country at Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid; downhill at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington
Lake Placid hosts the series finale of the international mountain bike World Series this year. The racing is split between two Olympic venues. According to the official Lake Placid Legacy Sites event page, the cross-country events run at Mt Van Hoevenberg and the downhill runs at Whiteface.
Schedule highlights (subject to change, per the organizer):
- Friday, October 2:
- Short Track (XCC) World Cup races at Mt Van Hoevenberg, with Elite Women at 11:45 a.m. and Elite Men at 12:35 p.m.
- Downhill training at Whiteface.
- Friday Night Bike Jam, 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval in downtown Lake Placid.
- Saturday, October 3:
- Cross Country Olympic (XCO) World Cup at Mt Van Hoevenberg, with Elite Women at 2:00 p.m. and Elite Men at 4:00 p.m.
- Downhill qualifying at Whiteface through the afternoon.
- Sunday, October 4: Downhill World Cup finals at Whiteface only, with Elite Women at 1:00 p.m. and Elite Men at 2:10 p.m.
Young riders can get involved too. Mt Van Hoevenberg is hosting The Grind, a junior cross-country race and ride, on Friday afternoon.
Tickets: spectator admission isn't free for everyone.
- One-day general admission is $20 for ages 22–69. It's $10 for ages 13–21, adults 70+, and college students or military members with ID.
- Kids 12 and under and season passholders get in free.
- Friday and Saturday tickets cover both venues. Sunday tickets are for Whiteface only.
- Three-day passes are also available.
- The organizers ask that even free tickets be reserved in advance.
Parking and shuttles: paid parking is $20 per day. Shuttles run from the Horse Show Grounds in Lake Placid to Mt Van Hoevenberg (Friday and Saturday) and to Whiteface (Saturday and Sunday). The organizer notes that Miracle Plaza does not have a direct shuttle to either venue. The event's info guide has the full parking and shuttle map.
Planning note: with events at two venues and fall foliage traffic on Route 73 and Route 86, the shuttles are the easiest way to get around. Leave extra time between venues.
Parsons Dance Studio Showing (Friday, October 2)
When: Friday, October 2, 7:00 p.m. Where: The Annex at Arts Center Lake Placid, 17 Algonquin Drive
Arts Center Lake Placid is the new name for the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. It's hosting a free studio showing by Parsons Dance Company, a preview of new work straight from the studio. According to the event listing, this is part of the company's 5th annual residency in Lake Placid.
Heads up: as of this writing, the Arts Center's event page lists the showing as sold out, with a waitlist available. The same evening, 5:30–6:30 p.m., the Arts Center is hosting a free David Parsons Masterclass. Check the Arts Center's site for availability.
Adirondack Rail Trail Fall Gathering (Saturday, October 3)
When: Saturday, October 3, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Where: Raquette River Brewing, 11 Balsam Street, Tupper Lake
The Adirondack Rail Trail is one of the region's newest ways to get outside. It's a multi-use trail on the former rail corridor linking the Tri-Lakes communities. The Adirondack Rail Trail Association is hosting an evening gathering for trail supporters, with conversation and a short update on projects along and connected to the trail.
According to the event listing, there's a $25 suggested donation, and the organizer asks guests to RSVP. The listing's flyer has the RSVP QR code.
Make a day of it: spend Saturday afternoon on the trail itself while the leaves are turning, then head to the gathering in Tupper Lake that evening.
Saranac Lake High Peaks Farmers' Market (Saturday, October 3)
When: Saturday, October 3, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Where: Riverside Park, Main Street and River Street, Saranac Lake
The Saranac Lake High Peaks Farmers' Market runs every Saturday through October 10, so this is one of the last two markets of the season. It's a producer-only market, meaning vendors sell only what they or their employees make, and there's live music each week. Riverside Park sits right on the Saranac River in the heart of downtown, which makes it easy to pair the market with a walk through town.
Planning Your Weekend
The events this weekend stretch from Wilmington to Tupper Lake, but most of them are within a reasonable drive of each other in the Tri-Lakes area.
- Friday: short-track racing at Mt Van Hoevenberg, then the Bike Jam in Lake Placid (or Parsons Dance, if you're on the waitlist).
- Saturday: start at the Saranac Lake market, then catch the afternoon XCO races or downhill qualifying. End with the Rail Trail gathering in Tupper Lake.
- Sunday: downhill finals at Whiteface.

What a Weekend Like This Says About Living Here
Few places give residents a World Cup race, a professional dance residency, and a weekly farmers' market all within a short drive. That's everyday life in the Tri-Lakes area: world-class events hosted in small towns where you'll probably run into your neighbors at the market the next morning.
If you're thinking about a move, our community pages for Lake Placid and Saranac Lake are a good place to start. For a look at the rhythms of local life, see Adirondack Traditions Every New Resident Eventually Learns. You can also browse current listings across the region.
